Do you Love Vespa?

If you'd read through the log, you'll probably noticed that this blog is handle by 2 person. Me (CY) and also Hee.
I'm the owner of a Classic Vespa, and a Classic Beetle; while Hee is the owner of a Modern DSLR and a Classic Authentic Lomo Camera. Both of us had same interest in common, Classics and Photography. Funny that either of us invested in different areas~ So i got to own the classics while paying with his gadget sometimes, and he get's to snap plentiful pictures and following me around for classics event.

Sadly, neither of my classics were moving alot lately, my beetle has major problems on the tuning, while my Vespa has the braking problem. Sometimes it feels wasted seeing these beauty laying in the porch untouch.

Many times the idea of selling them off came across my mind, i just couldn't fork out the money for repairs. But deep down i couldn't let them go. Recently i've met a friend who'd drive a VW for 9 years in bad condition. He told me to go slow, if he could do it, so can i. he uses 7 years to collect his parts and money, and recently spent 2 years for complete overmaking. The results? Astonishing.

Seeing his classic makes my well covered passion re-burns.

I remember how i ignore those irritative problems and kept driving my classic. I remember how i ride the Vespa across the busy district all the way back to where it is now without a proper brake. I remember how i used to roam around looking for unwanted scraps just to get the alternative parts. I'm gonna do something to make this feeling revive again!

First, i will repair my Vespa, and drive it to school. Everyday. Next, i will send my beetle for cheap wiring and then tuning.

So, do you have any stories about your Vespa or other classics? I would like to hear them!

the Ride home

One fine day. we took Vespa for a spin around the town

CY having trouble starting his Vespa, stuck with it for the past half an hour

while waiting...i sh*t at the little christmas tree. hope it grows

the Vespa starts eventually...

but not for long...fuel ran flat

it hauled after a 5 minutes ride... CY push it all the way to Petronas for fuel...

i follow from the back...the storm travels along...

Petronas was really far though...

after getting the Vespa up for running...

but i like this shot the most.

we got to Jusco, CY wanted to pay his debts....while he's trying hard to get his Vespa chained

this drink doesn't belong to mine nor CY.

unfortunately when we planned to go back. the clutch cable went loose...the clutch doesn't work, it stays at first gear and won't even go fast...pretty shit having a Vespa aite? well. if you love the Vespa. it's a motivation for you to make it better.

and CY pushes his Vespa around look for workshop...and this noob worker hasn't even seen a Vespa before, of course has no idea how to fix it. CY demonstrates his skills to this noob worker.

eventually. that doesn't fix it. they don't have the right tools. and we ride the Vespa back all the way with only first gear.

although the Vespa failed us, especially CY.

it still a great pride to have a Vespa.

5.12.09 Vespa Show, PGRM field

December 5th, 2009. 2 Vespa-admirers and an innocuous head toward PGRM field Cheras for a Vespa Show.

when you're always on the run. definitely you'd need this a picnic basket to stock all your food!

like they always said. Less is More. now when you thought things had gotten worst in the Vespa show. guess again! it's definitely this machine caused it. isn't that just overstepped the border? too many accessories aite? at least get the original parts dowh.

on the way back. it was a massive traffic jam on the highway...as usual...don't be upset about it

and remember to lock your freaking doors!!! KL is filled with jerks! these jerks like to open your door for pleasure...and rape you.

I was really excited..
Me and my roommate roam around KL city searching for Vespa specialist or accesories shop, and luck struck on our side.
For you guys staying in KL or Selangor, there's a specialist shop in Old Klang Road. It's reachable via Jalan Pantai Dalam. It's located about 1km after a Shell petrol station and about 5km before the Toll exiting to Sunway/PJ. U'll notice a row of shop selling modern bikes, that particular shop is at the next row of shop facing to the highway, which is really secluded. The shop name is PJOne. Alternatively u may visit their website www.PJOne.com.my

I bought some accesories there and went home happily...

But then... Lady luck did not smile on me very long...

One of the emblem i bought, got lost just one day after i put it up on my Vespa.
I hope it just dropped around my porch and not stolen by some crooks....
Sigh... i particularly loved that emblem the most...

Chapter Begins.... my 1st Vespa

Being a fan of German automobile, i've never thought that i would actually fall in love with Italian make Scootz...

Somehow, this classic lil scootz slowly overtaken my tiny heart. "Have you heard of Vespa?"

one of my closest friend asked me. "No. Tell me about it." i replied. "It's aircooled! Just like your Volksie! The only thing is, it's a scooter!" my friend exclaimed, pointing to my VW. "Gheez, what two wheelz isn't air cooled???!!" i'm not convinced with his reply. "It has similiar history to your Volksie! It's built meant for military! And its engine is placed behind!" he subscribed. "I see..." simple answer from me indicates to him i've no interest in the non-German made scootz.

Eventhough i have not much interest on it, i googled the brand and did some reading on Wiki. Soon, i found it quite interesting altough the initial production wasn't really planned for military use. Somehow, it is still having a similiar description to my VW, being said that they're both built aiming to provide the nation an affordable mobile. The most attractive point that struck my nerves is the various modification a tiny scooter could get. Image after image i scrolled, thanks to Google, more and more interested i got. Still, i'm not convinced to get one for myself.

Days gone by, i'm impressed with how many Vespas are still on the road. Observing these Vespas i encountered, some were nicely polished with all chromes and accesories, some were rusted here and there being the owner's daily ride, some even carrying lots and lots of loadz for it is the business transport! I thought "They're old, yet they're not a rare scene on the road, it must means that they're tough!". Few days later, i received a call from the same friend "Do u wanna have a ride on my Vespa?" I've not seen his Vespa before, and definitely never ride before, "Why not?" i replied.

When i saw his Vespa, i'm surprised with how detail the finishing is. Shiny Maroon chasis pairing

wheels with large fender. Single wheel fork and simple suspension system, nice curves all round with interesting gear systems. "You'll love the sound!" he mentioned while he starts the scootz. Indeed, it's as lovely as a VW, a sound that is so special that almost no other vehicle could produce. He then took me for tea via a bumpy and winding road, it's very obvious why he didn't take the usual main road; but i enjoyed the journey, alot.

Wait no more, i surf the net looking for used Vespa, but dissapointingly they're either too expensive, or condition below my expectation. Since i'm starting my VW project real soon, i do not want to fill my junkyard with another waiting-in-progress project. Slowly, i stopped searching for Vespa.

After a long long period, while having conversation with my friend, i jokingly said i would buy his Vespa if he's willing to let go. To my surprise, he agreed to sell it to me, saying that he has no time for it since he just had a new born baby. Just like that, we had a deal. 2 weeks later, i went to his house and drove around 40km back to my house. I'm not familiar with it, but overall i enjoyed the ride, although i almost knock into someone else due to braking. I'm impressed with it's performance and speed altough it's a really old scooter. And i'm happy to add another collection in my porch.

I bought this shirt from Thailand without knowing i'll buy a Maroon vespa. They matches perfectly, ain't they? Maybe it is destined that i'll buy a Maroon Vespa. (My VW is a Bumblebee therefore he's been used to mask my face..... ^_^ )

I would like to proudly introduce myself to the world of Vespa, hoping that one day i could meet many of you from all around the world sharing our love, blood and sweat on Vespa!
